After 12 years behind the counter, Colin and his wife Sabine have decided to retire and have sold Island Longboards to Scott Barbour.
Many of you know Scott already as he has been here at the shop for the past two years, and the transition for him becoming the boss will be easy.
Colin will still be around helping Scott where he can during the Summer months. This is not just a business transaction; Colin and Scott have known each other for 10 years and are friends. "I want to see Scott prosper and achieve all his dreams, he's a young, smart guy" Colin said.
Colin is looking forward to seeing Island Longboards grow and expand into its next phase. He believes Scott and his staff will be able to take the shop to the next level, while still maintaining the level of service and products customers have become accustomed to over the years.
Colin and Sabine would like to thank all the loyal customers, suppliers and friends they have made over the years, it's been a blast - see you at the beach!
History of Island Longboards
In the Spring of 1998, we opened The Surf Shop in Qualicum Beach. After two and a half years at that location, the economy was struggling and our lease was about to expire, so we decided to close the retail store and continue renting gear to our many loyal customers directly from our home.
In 2001, we were fortunate enough to buy some acreage in the country, which just happens to be situated beside the only Highway leading over to the West Coast of VancouverIsland. We renovated the existing Barn and were pleased to announce the opening of ISLAND LONGBOARDS in the Spring of 2003.
We look forward to serving you, whether you're stopping by the shop on the way to the waves, or shopping in our online store.
If it's your first time on a rental board or you are a seasoned surfer, we have all the gear to get you to and into the water and having fun. If you need a new or used surfboard or wetsuit, check our selection. We also offer a great selection of waxes, leashes, boardbags, fins, t-shirts and videos and don't forget the coffee!
