New at Island Longboards for Spring and Summer 2009:
Stand Up Paddleboarding is a fun, new emerging sport in the world and our area, and we are excited to introduce group “Discover Stand Up Paddleboarding” lessons, as well as “Guided Coastal and River Cruises”, to share the stoke of this new sport. Whether you would like to give Stand Up Paddleboarding a try for the first time, or if you are already hooked, and would like to go on longer paddles, the best way is to book one of our new packages. Our qualified and experienced instructors will help you learn this unique sport, and we are certain that you will have a great time!
No experience is needed for the “Discover Stand Up Paddleboarding” lesson.
A stand up paddle board, and paddle, will be provided. In colder conditions a wetsuit and boots may be necessary (available for rent from Island Longboards, or use your own).
The best way to learn is to begin on flat water. Our lessons will be held on the calm waters of beautiful Qualicum Beach. Lessons are open to paddlers of all ages and abilities. Why not try something new this year?
In our introductory group lesson you will learn everything from beach, wind and weather conditions, board and paddle selection, how to carry your board and entry into the water, paddling techniques, basic safety and rescue techniques. Stand Up Paddling helps with your core balance, posture and is a great workout. With our instruction you will be having fun paddling our beautiful coastline and totally stoked on your very first lesson.
Offered every Wednesday and Saturday at Qualicum Beach at 10am (reservation necessary)
Duration 2 hours
Once you have mastered the basics why not enrol on one of our guided coastal and estuary tours. Depending on the conditions and tides we will take you on a short coastal trip from Qualicum Beach or on a guided cruise along the beautiful Little Qualicum River and estuary. The views are stunning and there are many opportunities to spot magnificent sea and bird life. To enrol on this course you must have completed our “Discover Stand Up Paddleboarding” course or have previous experience.
Offered every Wednesday afternoon at 4pm (reservation necessary)
Duration 2 - 2½hours
Advanced booking is necessary for both the “Discover Stand Up Paddleboarding” lesson and the “Guided Coastal and River Cruise”. Please call us or stop in at the shop to make the reservation. Full payment is required before the lesson takes place.
The meeting place for the “Discover Stand Up Paddling” lesson as well as the “Guided Coastal and River Cruise” will be at ‘Four Poles’ at Qualicum Beach, and we will meet on the lawn section beside the public washrooms. Lesson times are fixed, so please do not arrive late.
Please note that our SUP lessons are dependent on the weather and tide conditions, and if deemed necessary the time, date and/or location may need to be changed accordingly. In the event of this happening we will contact you with the new information.
